Jib Jab — Applications Using Social Media Brilliantly

Welcome to another episode of Thoughtpick’s series of articles: Apps Using SM Brilliantly. We will again be looking into examples of tricks and methods that online games and applications are using to make the most of social media. In other words, what is making those apps as “spreadable” and “viral” as they are.

Today’s application is: Jib Jab.

The Application:

Founded in 1999, way before social media times, Jib Jab was simply an application to create customized e-cards, videos, images and so on. Jib Jab offers you a chance to easily spend a few hours there creating funny videos and pictures and laughing your a** off when they are ready!

Now, and through excellent utilization of social media, the application has 599,453 monthly active users on Facebook and 149,116 people like it!

What Did They Do?

Although Jib Jab could have grown complacent and refrained from using social media, they did exactly the opposite and that is how they became even more viral and social.

Here are a few steps they took in order to make sure they are noticed and spread:

1. They fiercely rode on the social media wave: Jib Jab has the following social media accounts and as you can see, they didn’t miss any channel that will match their needs!

2. They made sure you can log on to the application through Facebook in order to be able to access your information and seduce you to use the application for certain events such as birthdays.

  • Good post Beirut, but I think you did not even touch the real reason. Both points 1 and 2 play a role in why it's a success, but you didn't mention the main reason (in my opinion): Personalized Fun!

    We are fishing for 'likes', retweets, and 'LOL's everytime we share a piece on our walls or Twitter streams! Using Jib Jab can be hilarious, especially when combined with internal jokes between you and your friends. This means a much better chance of retweets, lols and likes.

    The way I see it is that their brilliance is in *keeping their content fresh*. Giving their audience ideas to get them this rush you have once your status has a 2 digit likes.
