TravBuddy — Apps Using Social Media Brilliantly

Welcome to another episode of Thoughtpick’s series of articles: Apps Using SM Brilliantly. We will again be looking into examples of tricks and methods that online games and applications are using to make the most of social media. In other words, what is making those apps as “spreadable” and “viral” as they are.

Today’s application is: TravBuddy.

The Application:

My Travel Map!

TravBuddy is a social networking application for travelers. It allows Facebook users to create and share their own travel map and see what percent of the world they have visited.

The application Facebook stats are interesting: It currently has 105,000+ monthly active users, 16,000+ likes yet a relatively low rating of 2.7 out of 5 (which I think is related to representation; the lack of fun, colorful graphics).

What They Did:

The developers of TravBuddy were smart: they added a social element to this application which is very simple yet viral in its nature at the same time!

The application allows you to:

  • Publish your travel map on your wall, Facebook feeds and friends’ homepages:

Being social & sharing!

  • Find travelers going to the same places as you are.

Find a travel buddy!

  • Write and share  unbiased travel tips and reviews.

Write & share reviews

To wrap up: What do you think of TravBuddy? Have you tried  it? Do you like how they are utilizing social media? What could they be missing?

Looking forward to your feedback and comments down below :)

That’s an interesting app but I think the low rating is for the lack of bells and whistles like you said.
