Looking to Use “Rent-A-Girlfriend” Service? Think Again!

A fake French website has revealed something both tragic and pitiful in our modern society by offering to rent men girlfriends who are able to stun relatives, friends or business partners with their charm and beauty.

loueunepetiteamie.com (translatable as rentagirlfriend.com) asked the following questions last month: “Have you had enough of being alone? Had enough of your wife?” It further stressed that the “rental services” it offered were strictly non-sexual.

After creating a viral Internet buzz where chat rooms, blogs and forums fought over the morality and legality of renting out fake girlfriends, all was confirmed on Tuesday to be a marketing ploy for a site selling classified ads. In just one month, it’s said, the bogus site had 180,000 hits, 550 women offered their services as rental girlfriends — and 5,000 men wanted to hire one out.

Alexandre Woog said “the media sting had cost his organization a grand total of 15 euros ($20.5), to buy the domain name and graphic design“.

So, what do you think: Would you consider signing up of such a service? And do you think this was a smart marketing move on the site’s behalf?

Mixed feelings: funny, sad & smart. Funny concept, sad for the men that bought and women who listed themselves, and smart as a campaign to gain attention.

    My 2 cents.

Fools, no different then hiring a prostitute really. They will do the same service at a price. But guess the site got plenty of hits though, now what’s it’s next step?

I’ll definitely be updating the blog with any news on the outcome.

Hmm .. trying to remember this movie where he hired actors over the span of like 15 years so that he would fool his mother into thinking that he is married… so there are some legitimate uses for such a service, and it doesn’t sound much different than the rent-a-friend service we talked about last year

That is very true… I wonder what will happen next!
