There are roughly 27 million people in slavery today. Most of these people are women and children. Many are forced into hard labor or prostitution against their will.
Modern day slavery is more prominent and more of an issue than any other period of slavery in recorded history.
There is slavery in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, and nearly every country across the globe. The U.S. State Department estimates some 800,000 people are trafficked worldwide each year. More than 17,000 of those people end up in the U.S.
