Facebook, Facebook, Facebook… The infamous social media channel that almost everyone around the world have heard of!

Have you ever wondered how parents might think of it?

I have, therefore, I prepared a list of 5 reasons why parents can hate Facebook especially when it comes to their kids using it, followed up by some tips and pointers that could help parents in their struggle to give their kids some freedom while making sure they are safe.

1. Easy come, easy go…

Facebook applications, especially those like Cafe World and Farmville, teach kids that everything could be achieved with just a click or a few. Many parents consider this very negative because it effects the way their children are growing up and alters their image of reality!

Dagens Industri, a Swedish financial newspaper, had a mission: Launching Zebra, a new 4 wheel drive for the Swedish market.

Idea & Objectives:

Dagens Industri Swedish Newspaper

Their first idea for a solution was to build a Zoo just outside Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and invite the company’s clients and employees. Following that, they would use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Bambuser, MySpace and flash mobs, with product placement to match.

To back the campaign offline, they would produce and distribute stickers, soft zebra toys and cryptic messages all around town.

However, they end up sticking to print advertising since it is “much simpler and easier“. This is the entire idea behind the Youtube video!

The message is: social media is not always the right solution.

At the end of the day, Dagens Industri is a news paper and they’re advertising… print advertising.

Now those privacy zealots are always bashing Facebook and its users for not valuing their privacy, and calling on everyone on the web to go back to their cocoon and place a big firewall seal on their information and lives. But let us face it, majority of the people on the internet like their Facebook and social media and like using it. Those privacy pundits are just political motivated scare mongers. Those guys are up there on wing-nut scale with Teabaggers, Truthers, Birthers and Sarah Palin but there must be some bipartisan middle ground between the privacy zealots and Zuckman’s total agnosticism to privacy.
