Tron Legacy

Tron Legacy

Tron is, by definition, a cult classic that spawned a video game, a comic book and an up and coming TV series. The movie was  released in 1982 to mixed critical review, while it had a solid story and featured the first heavy use of CGI in a feature film it never appealed to the critics or the general public. But there definitely were enough neon clothes and light cycle coolness to woo sci-fi fans across many generations.

As time went by and the movie picked up more and more fans, talks and gossip about a possible sequel started to emerge. Maybe a continuation of the original story, some said it might even be a remake that would bring it to the 21st century. Finally, in 2008’s  San Diego Comic Con, and after 26 years of anticipation, speculation came to a head and Disney featured a preliminary trailer of Tron Legacy.

Is Technology Making us Cocoon Away From Society?

I can still hear it ringing in my ear every time I sit behind a computer screen “Get off that thing and go interact with Real People!”. That was my father’s reaction whenever he noticed me spending too much time on the computer. It has been more than a decade since I started growing up with the internet, and up to this day, my parents still feel that the internet makes people withdraw from society and leads them to become anti-social. That idea is not only fostered by my parents but also by a lot of people. You know what is even worse than being an internet user? To be an internet user and avid gamer!

Personally, I never bought into that argument at all, and apparently the people at PEW set out to find the truth. The results of the research have been interesting, to say the least.

Social Interaction

Social Interaction

The numbers…

People who use the internet have been found to have a more diverse network of people whom they interact with. Internet users are 55% more likely to have a discussion partner that is not part of the family. Not surprisingly either is that internet users who blog and share photos are more likely to have a confidant (people whom they trust and confide in) of a different race and tend to interact with people from across races and political lines. That’s certainly an advantage since our comfort zone is constantly challenged and hopefully not by many trolls.

5 Tips for Artists to Create their 1000 True Fans

Scoial Media Networks

Scoial Media Networks

All artists might already be swimming in the social media sea; they have already befriended thousands upon thousands of people on MySpace and Facebook. Moreover, they are already spamming every denizen on the web with posts and message about how great they are and how people should vote for them on the latest Facebook competition. Somehow all those people who think this is the way to deal with social media are mistaken. They tend to miss the point completely.

An up and coming artist will need to work hard on earning their true fans. Even 1,000 true fans is great and will be able to sustain the artist on a pretty good living standard. That might be a surprise, but a true fan is the person who will not only buy the artist’s work, they will buy the special editions, attend the gigs and if, given the opportunity, would buy the kitchen sink as well. So, if we say that a true fan will contribute a $100 of their income per year towards that artist, the artist will be making a $100,000 a year.

So how to earn those true fans?
