“Ping destroys whatever was left of MySpace’s market share,” said Xeni Jardin, co editor of the technology blog Boing Boing. “It remains to be seen what kind of competition it poses for Facebook.” ~ BBC
Having set shop in the technology department through the MP3 player, the mobile phone and the computer tablet markets with the iPod, iPhone and iPad devices respectively, Apple just recently announced its latest expansion – into social media – with Ping.
Ping is to be integrated into Apple’s latest iTunes software update and will enable users, or “Pingers”, to do the following:
- Follow friends and others.
- Build networks of friends and professional musicians.
- Create playlists based on what your friends are listening to.
- See music related information including what music your ping friends are buying and what concerts they’re attending.
Furthermore, Ping will be accessible through iTunes, 10 software on Macs and PCs as well as through the iTunes application on iPhones and the iPod Touch.
It seems that MySpace is in for a surprise! This smart yet unanticipated step by Apple might as well be the last straw that will break MySpace’s back!
What do you think: Will Ping be a huge success as is being predicted? Do you believe that Ping is able to substitute MySpace once and for all?
